We are very pleased to honor Roger Weaver, Scholarly Communications Librarian at Missouri Science & Technology University, as one of our 2018 IR All-Stars. From day one, Roger envisioned their repository, Scholar’s Mine, as a suite of services that could benefit the entire campus. Roger’s strategic leadership of the repository and digital services at Missouri S&T has successfully aligned the library’s activities with larger institutional goals including student recruitment, community engagement, and research and data support. Roger has been very active in the scholarly communications community, sharing best practices and supporting others to succeed.
Roger shared specific advice on how to connect IR initiatives to institutional priorities in the webinar “New Strategies for Aligning Libraries with Institutional Goals,” with co-presenters Margaret Trish and Kathleen Spring. They detail the process of seeking out faculty and administrative needs and adapting repository programs to meet those needs. This strategy has allowed the library to ferret out and say “yes” to digital projects that help support faculty and student requests around copyright education, support for open access publishing, data management assistance and much more. Roger matched the campus’s digital needs with Missouri S&T’s top-level goals to offer repository services that really allow Missouri S&T to shine
In his development of policies and campus outreach, Roger has demonstrated leadership which offers specialized library services to stakeholders trying to navigate a changing scholarly communications landscape. Far beyond simply gathering and posting material, Roger’s uses the Scholar’s Mine to inform and address faculty concerns. A case in point are the copyright education materials he provides for faculty to help guide them through their research cycle. His outreach has formed partnerships which mean he is consulted early on in the solutions for data management as well. Roger has helped to showcase faculty scholarship and raise their profiles through his adoption of the Expert Gallery Suite. In addition, his creative annual reports and outreach utilizes the DC Dashboard’s metrics to communicate the breadth of Missouri S&T research.
Please join us in congratulating Roger on this well-deserved honor!
