We were thrilled to welcome a new class of enthusiastic IR administrators from institutions across the U.S. (and Australia!) to the bepress office in Berkeley this March for a course in IR Management. The course covered a wide variety of IR-related topics and hands-on activities for new and experienced administrators alike. There were seminars, round tables, and one-on-one time with their bepress consultants (very popular!)—not to mention social time to connect with fellow admins.
The vast majority of attendees said they found the course “extremely helpful,” citing valuable insights into peer institutions using Digital Commons, learning about the full functionality of the DC platform, networking, and setting strategic short- and long-term repository goals.
Mark Roberts from ORU said there was “as much information as I could absorb—and then some.” Rebecca Clayton from University of Redlands said “I just started working on the IR and feel much more at ease,” adding “I learned a lot and had a fabulous time.”
Rebecca Mattson from Penn State Law summed up what many people said: “I learned so much! The one-on-ones with [her consultant] were so great to work through ideas.” Tatyana Shinn from Missouri S&T also said her consultant “was extremely helpful. He answered all my questions and helped me develop new perspectives for improving our IR.” Jenna Nolt from Kenyon expressed what others said about the course as well: “Tons of practical knowledge, presented in organized and useful sessions. I know I feel like I can speak authoritatively to faculty and admins about anything in DC. Also inspired to try some new things!”
