Announcing DC Publishing Services

A new service from bepress: DC Publishing Services

In response to the growing importance of library-led publishing, bepress is pleased to announce a new service for journals on the Digital Commons platform. DC Publishing Services connects journals to dozens of library and publisher tools in a single step.

DC Publishing Services includes:

  • Archiving with CLOCKSS and Portico
  • Delivery to library discovery tools (Worldcat, Primo, Summon, EBSCO Discovery)
  • Delivery to journal indexes and databases
  • DOIs with CrossRef
  • Registration with DOAJ, Ulrich’s, and ISSN
  • A relationship with vendors for copyediting, print, XML conversion, and other options

Participating journals benefit from professional publishing infrastructure and services previously reserved for large publishers: bepress handles all the memberships, legal agreements, and fees; carries out the technical set-up, follow-up, and troubleshooting; and orients the library and editors to this new landscape.

“Developing a holistic journal publishing service is a next logical step in a library’s support of scholarly communications,” says Doug Way, Head of Scholarly Communications at Grand Valley State University, a pilot school for the DC Publishing Services program. “The capacity to archive, facilitate indexing and supply DOIs – functions available from DC Publishing Services – allows us to attract and support journals that have come to expect these capabilities from commercial counterparts.”

DC Publishing Services ran in pilot stage during the first half of 2012, and we’d like to thank the participants who volunteered journals to help us test the program: Butler University, Grand Valley State University, Kennesaw State University, Pacific University, Purdue University, University of Massachusetts Amherst, University of Nevada Las Vegas, Western Kentucky University, and the Global Summitry Project at the University of Toronto.
